9 Ways to enjoy Christmas with your kids without spending a dollar
December 7th 2006 04:40
In this consumeristic society, your kids have probably given you a long wish list of exactly what they want (and some organized moms have probably have it all wrapped up waiting for Santa to deliver it to the kids)
But Christmas is more than just decorations and presents. Kids get naturally into the magic of the holiday spirit and I think the best Christmas present you can give your kid is having everyone happy, together and not stressed out about the holidays
Here are some fun holiday ideas to enjoy with your kids. Go ahead, try them – Your kids will be so busy having a blast they probably won’t care about presents.
1. Have a movie night. Pop some corn, cuddle up under the blankets and watch Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, Miracle on 34th street or my all time favorite – What a wonderful life
2. Listen to Christmas music together and sing loud to some of your favorites
3. Go caroling and get warm to some hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows
4. Have a cookie day. Spend a whole day making and decorating Christmas cookies with the kids (and for those of you who are like me and worried about making cookies from scratch –– that’s why grocery stores sell readymade cookie dough
)
5. Make some Christmas cards together. Again, you don’t have to be too crafty to do this – just print some Christmas pages off the internet and color them together
6. Write your kids a Christmas note each year telling them how much you love them and leave it on the Christmas tree. I'm sure they would love reading it on Christmas morning
7. Read a Christmas story with your kids. Have a lazy nite and read a Christmas story whichyou’re your childhood favorite …This will probably lead to reminiscing about your childhood and get your kids to know you in a different light.
8. Give some time. Giving is not just money. Volunteer some time. I know you must be thinking that volunteering is a bad idea when you don't have much time - so implement family volunteer time as part of your Christmas traditions. You get to spend some quality time together and it always feels good to help others
9. Make a CD of holiday music every year and date it. Then you’ll have a collection of music that you’ll appreciate over the years
Do you have any Christmas traditions as a child that you still enjoy? Please share…I would love to learn from you

I've been thinking lately, people should introduce a new custom whereby they're not allowed to spend money on each other, but have to spend time.
